Lovely book, toddlers loves it!

Rose Madder

In typical King style, this book combines real life with fantasy, and what King does best here is to blur the line between these two. The book starts out brutally, with a woman suffering the beatings of her husband, but when she decides to finally leave, she could not have imagined what will await her, both very good and very bad. I really liked this book.

This is most certainly a heart wrenching story. I can't say too much without giving away the story, so go ahead and read it. It's worth it!

This a wonderfully done graphic novel that will appeal to a select audience of those who have ever wanted to go off alone into the wilderness and survive off the land. Recommended for those grades 7 and up.

The Other Mrs.
by Mary Kubica

Another solid read from Mary Kubica, The Other Mrs. tells the story of Sadie and Will Foust, who have unexpectedly inherited a gouse in Maine, and custody Will's of 16 year niece, Imogen. Needing a fresh start away from their family problems in Chicago, Sadie and Will move their two sons the the Maine house, where Imogen lived with her mother, prior to her mother's suicide. All seems to be going well, although Imogen is rebellious while processing the trauma of her mother's death. Sadie has a job at the local medical clinic and Will is teaching classes at the local college. Then one night, sirens shatter the silent winter night - because their neighbor, Morgan Baines, was murdered. Although much of the story is told through the eyes of Sadie, we are also introduced to Camille, a woman that had a chance encounter with Will and has become obsessed with him, as well as Mouse, a 6 year old girl coping with her father's new wife. Clues are dropped and it seems not everyone is who they seem to be, all while there's a killer on their tiny island. Sadie tries to do her own sleuthing to figure out who is keeping secrets and what actually happened to Morgan, but how much will finding out the truth cost her? While I gathered the clues during this boom and had part of the mystery figured out pretty easily, there was still a big twist at the end that I didn't see coming. Overall, a great, twisty read!

Fun colors (and shades) to learn, tabs to pull, familiar objects to point to (and eventually name), we highly recommend this book. Loved it as a board book in late infancy and well into the toddler years.

What if the apartment building you lived in, at certain times, became a portal to the past, letting those who have died and those who have killed them, into your home. This is the premise for this story. What is nice about it is that the author does a good job of first developing the characters and then keeping them distinct, which for the number of characters he has here, is not an easy job. I did find the book interesting, but I am not a fan of Sci-fi /fantasy and so I did not love it.
